Obtaining a Shellfish License 2020

If you are a Senior Resident and had a license in 2019, your license has been automatically renewed. Just use the one from last year.

If you still need a new family, commercial or a one-time use license there are a few ways to obtain one:

  • If you are a resident senior you can call it in or email krose@edgartown-ma.us We will make it out and let you know how to pick it up.
  • In person sales on Friday afternoons in the back lot of Town Hall (weather permitting) 1pm-4pm. Masks and exact change or check required.
  • Town Hall Drop Box: Leave an envelope with payment and a note stating type of license, name(s) on license, street address and a phone number you can be reached at in the gray drop box in front of Town Hall. We will call you when it’s ready and leave it in a spot you can pick it up.
  • Snail Mail: Mail your request and payment with a self-addressed envelope so we may send it back to you.

Resident Licenses

Edgartown family resident licenses are available at a cost of $50. Licenses are free for Edgartown residents 60 years or older.

A family permit may not be used to fish more than once a week for any and all species of shellfish.

Non-Resident Licenses

Edgartown family non-resident licenses are available at a cost of $250.  One day licenses are available for $50 and are valid for 1 day during a one-week time period.  If you are applying for a one day license, please indicate which week you will be shellfishing.

FOR RESIDENT AND NON-RESIDENT LICENSES:

Please note: It is also necessary to purchase a measuring gauge ($5) for quahogs and clams.

Licenses are valid for husband, wife, children under 18 and/or two guests.

All family license holders must:

Have permit in possession while shellfishing.

Have shellfish measuring gauge in possession.

Must have a positive picture identification on their person while shellfishing.

A family permit may not be used to fish more than once a week for any and all species of shellfish.

Catch Limits:

A family permit holder shall not take more than ½ bushel of any and all species of shellfish during said week except for Bay Scallops. The Bay Scallop limit shall be no more than one (1) struck level 10 gallon plastic wash basket per week in season. Bay scalloping is not permitted for one-day license holders.
