How do I get a permit to drive on the beach?

There are two different over-sand vehicle beaches on Martha’s Vineyard:  Norton Point and Cape Poge/Wasque.  Both of these beaches are run by a private non-profit organization, The Trustees of Reservations (www.thetrustees.org).  Both offer annual permits that are valid from April 1 through March 31. Day passes are available only at Norton Point.

Norton Point Beach no longer connects Edgartown and Chappaquiddick: the ocean caused a breach in this barrier beach in April, 2007. It is not known when it will fill in. There are trails that permit access from both ends, but they no longer meet in the middle.
